Summer housing

On-campus housing

Reed offers on-campus housing during the summer! Find out more here.

During summer 2025, the cost was $750/month; rent reductions of up to $400/month were available for students experiencing financial difficulty.

The summer housing application has a space for you to mention reasons why you need housing. Good things to mention here are:

  • Financial need (if applicable)

  • Accessibility needs (if applicable)

  • Why your research opportunity is important to you and how it connects to your career goals

  • What your options, or lack thereof, would be if you did not get summer housing

Working on campus during the summer increases the likelihood that you will get summer housing, but it isn’t guaranteed. Keep off-campus options in mind as well!

During summer 2025, the timeline was:

  • March 24: Applications available

  • April 4: Applications due

  • April 25: Students notified about application status

  • April 30: Students notified of summer housing assignment

  • May 7: Deadline to cancel summer housing

  • May 30: Students move into summer housing

  • July 25: Students move out of summer housing

On-campus housing is convenient if you’re living on campus during the school year, since when you move out of summer housing, you move in to your school year housing. On-campus housing is less convenient if you won’t be living on campus during the school year (for instance, if you’re studying abroad), since you’ll have to move out in late July.

Off-campus housing

Reed’s guide to off-campus housing can be found here. There’s a lot of useful information, although both the video and their off-campus housing resource guide are from 2020.

If you’re trying to find sublet or roommate offers, try the Reed Switchboard—it’s a website where Reed-affiliated people can ask for or offer resources, and there are a lot of housing-related posts.

A list of apartment complexes near Reed can be found here. This is a good option if you’re looking to live off-campus year-round. If you’re looking for summer housing only, keep in mind that it can be hard to find apartments that will do a three-month lease, and the ones that will are often more expensive.

Here is a list of faculty-owned and privately-owned houses near Reed that are currently available for rent.

Not all housing listings are online—keep an eye out for housing-related flyers around campus! And ask your friends, especially upperclassmen and people who live off campus, if they know of anyone who’s moving out.
